Botox vs Dysport in Central London | Alcove Aesthetics

Botox and Dysport are both excellent wrinkle-relaxing injections used widely in Mayfair and Central London, but they are not identical. The simplest way to think about them is this: they work in a very similar way, but differ slightly in how quickly they act, how far they spread, and how precisely we can tailor them to delicate areas. At Alcove Aesthetics by Dr Goziem on Pall Mall, I use both products, and during your consultation we decide together which is safer and more suitable for your face, lifestyle and goals.

For many of my patients in Mayfair, St James’s and Westminster, Botox is ideal for very controlled, targeted softening of frown lines and crow’s feet. Dysport can be helpful when we want a slightly softer diffusion across a broader muscle group, for example in stronger foreheads. Both typically last 3 to 4 months, can be combined with skin treatments for texture and glow, and can be adjusted at review appointments for refined, natural results. The most important factor is not the brand, but precise, doctor-led assessment and injection technique in a safe, regulated medical setting.

Introduction: Choosing the right wrinkle-relaxing treatment

If you feel your face looks tired or cross even when you feel fine, you are not alone. Many of my patients, especially women in their 30s, 40s and 50s, come to my Central London facial aesthetics clinic worried about frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet making them look older or stressed.

They usually say the same thing: “I want to look fresher, but I do not want to look fake.” That is exactly where carefully planned, doctor-led Botox or Dysport treatments can help. When placed with precision, these treatments soften lines while keeping your natural expressions, so you still look like you – just rested, smoother and more confident.

As a GDC registered dentist with an MSc in Aesthetic Medicine, my focus at Alcove Aesthetics is subtlety, safety and long-term skin health. Choosing between Botox and Dysport is part of that personalised plan.

What It Is & How It Works

Botox and Dysport are both brand names for prescription medicines that temporarily relax specific muscles. They are made from highly purified botulinum toxin type A, used in tiny, controlled doses.

How they work on wrinkles

  1. Over time, repeated facial movements (frowning, squinting, raising your brows) create creases in the skin.
  2. Botox and Dysport are injected into selected facial muscles using very fine needles.
  3. They block nerve signals that tell those muscles to contract.
  4. The muscles soften, and the overlying skin gradually looks smoother and less lined.

You are still able to express yourself – the aim is to reduce excessive or harsh movements that are ageing the skin, not to freeze the face.

Botox vs Dysport – the medical differences

Both are licensed, well-studied treatments. The differences are more technical than dramatic, but they do influence my recommendations:

  • Onset of action

  • Botox typically starts to work within 3 to 5 days, with full effect at around 2 weeks.

  • Dysport can begin to show an effect slightly sooner for some patients, sometimes from day 2 to 3.

  • Spread and diffusion

  • Dysport has a tendency to diffuse a little more from the injection point, which can be useful for broader areas or stronger muscles.

  • Botox typically stays more localised, which is ideal when we need very precise control, especially around the eyes or brows.

  • Dosing units are not interchangeable

  • A “unit” of Dysport is not the same as a “unit” of Botox.

  • As a practitioner, I adjust dosage according to the product, your muscle strength and your facial anatomy.

  • Duration of results

  • Both usually last about 3 to 4 months.

  • Some patients find one brand lasts a little longer than the other for them – this can be explored over time.

In practice, the decision is rarely “Botox or Dysport forever”. At Alcove Aesthetics, I may start you on one product, review at 2 weeks, and over time adjust the brand, dose and injection pattern to give you the most natural, reliable results.

Benefits & Results

Both Botox and Dysport can be highly effective when planned and performed by an experienced medical professional. Common treatment areas include frown lines (the “11s”), horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet.

Key benefits at a glance

Typical results you can expect:

Patients often tell me they choose Alcove Aesthetics because they feel listened to and never rushed. Your Botox or Dysport treatment plan is built from a detailed assessment of your facial structure, not a generic “one-size-fits-all” approach, ensuring you leave looking like a more rested version of yourself, not “done”.

Treatment Journey

Every journey at Alcove Aesthetics follows a structured, medical approach to ensure safety and precision.

1. Consultation and facial assessment

Your visit starts with a thorough consultation at our Pall Mall clinic:

  • Full medical history and discussion of any previous treatments
  • Analysis of your dynamic expressions – how your face moves when you talk, smile and frown
  • Clear explanation of Botox vs Dysport, including likely results, risks and alternatives
  • A tailored plan that may combine wrinkle relaxing injections with complementary options such as PRP for under-eye quality or skin boosters for hydration and glow

You will always have time to ask questions before consenting to treatment.

2. Treatment procedure

  • Your face is cleansed and, if needed, a topical numbing cream is applied, though most patients find this unnecessary.
  • I mark precise injection points according to your muscle activity and desired outcome.
  • Using ultra-fine needles, very small amounts of Botox or Dysport are injected into targeted muscles.
  • The procedure typically takes 15–20 minutes.

Discomfort is usually minimal – most patients describe brief pinpricks rather than pain.

3. Follow-up and refinement

All wrinkle-relaxing treatments include a follow-up review, usually at 2 weeks:

  • We assess how your muscles have responded.
  • If needed, we make small adjustments to fine-tune your result.
  • This step is key for first-time patients – it allows us to “map” your response and plan future treatments with even greater accuracy.

Recovery & Aftercare

Recovery from Botox or Dysport is typically very straightforward, which suits busy professionals in Mayfair, Westminster and the wider Central London area.

  • Downtime: No true downtime – you can go back to most daily activities immediately.
  • Common temporary effects: Mild redness, swelling or tiny bumps at injection sites, usually settling within minutes to hours. Occasional small bruises can last a few days.
  • Results timeline:
  • Day 2–5: Early softening may start (often slightly earlier with Dysport).
  • Day 10–14: Full results are visible.
  • 3–4 months: Effect gradually wears off as nerve activity returns.

You will receive clear written aftercare, and follow-ups are always available if you have any concerns.

Cost & Transparency

At Alcove Aesthetics, prices for wrinkle-relaxing injections with Botox or Dysport are discussed clearly at consultation, depending on the number of areas and the complexity of your treatment plan.

We operate a £50 booking fee, redeemable against treatment, with a 48-hour reschedule policy. Combination plans – for example integrating wrinkle relaxing with Dermal Fillers for structure or skin boosters for glow – are priced transparently in advance, so you always know your investment before proceeding.

During your consultation, we can also compare the cost-effectiveness of different options over 6–12 months so your plan is both aesthetically and financially sustainable.

FAQ: Botox vs Dysport

Is Botox or Dysport safer?

Both Botox and Dysport have strong safety records when used by qualified medical professionals. The safety difference lies more in who is injecting than which brand is used. At Alcove Aesthetics, all injections are doctor-administered, and a full medical history is taken to minimise risk. Individual results may vary, and suitability is always confirmed at consultation.

Which gives more natural results?

Both can look very natural; the result depends on correct product choice, dose and placement. I often choose Botox when I need very precise control around the eyes and brows, and Dysport where a slightly softer spread benefits larger or stronger muscles. Natural results come from tailoring, not from the brand alone.

Is the treatment painful?

Most patients find Botox and Dysport injections very tolerable – more “uncomfortable” than painful. You may feel brief stings or pressure for a second or two at each point. The needles are extremely fine, and treatments are quick. Topical numbing can be used if you are particularly sensitive.

How long do results really last?

For most people, the visible effect lasts around 3 to 4 months. If you have very strong muscles or are very expressive, it may be slightly shorter initially. With consistent treatments, some patients find their lines soften long-term and they can extend intervals between visits.

Am I a good candidate?

You may be suitable if you are generally healthy, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and bothered by dynamic lines such as frown lines, forehead lines or crow’s feet. If your main concern is skin texture, pores or pigmentation, treatments such as Microneedling or chemical peels may be more appropriate, or we may combine approaches. A full in-person consultation is essential to determine the safest and most effective plan for you.

To explore whether Botox or Dysport is right for you, and to design a gentle, natural anti-ageing plan tailored to your face, I would be delighted to see you in clinic.
